The world hates change....

... yet it is the only thing that has brought progress - Charles Kettering

So our bead fair season is well and truly underway which is lovely. I'm still quite new to bead fairs so I'm still learning the ropes really. The Scottish Bead Fair in Perth was a real eye opener and the customers as well as my fellow bead shop friends were amazingly supportive, constructive with their criticism and I have been invited back in August. Fab! I was at Doncaster Bead Fair on Sunday and it also was a great ...

... It turned into a butterfly!

I'm not going to apologise for the lack of blogging over the past few months as I'm sure you will appreciate that it has been a tricky start to the year for Rosewill Cottage but things are on the up!

Just to fill you in on the background I have now left Northumbria University so that I can concentrate on the shop full-time for a while. So in the space of three weeks I have had time to introduce a load of exciting new things!

We have the pleasure of being able ...

Posted by Dawn McLean on Wednesday, May 16, 2012, In : Rosewill Cottage

New Gemstones are coming!......

So in the meantime we have set up a preview folder in our online shop so you can see what we are excited about.

This year along with a few staples we have gone for the summery peachy pink...

Gemstone to watch - Anhydrite

Gemstone to watch

Most people prefer to call Anhydrite by the name Angelite or Angel Stone but despite it's pretty sky colour, which is a base colour of opaque pale glacier blue with snow white flecks, this gemstone isn't really a popular choice of gemstone for jewellery designers at the moment.

Personally I prefer to call it angelite and I have made many pieces of memorial jewellery using this gemstone, often incorporating a simple locket.

The ladies I have had the honour of making t...

Gemstone of the week - Demantoid Garnet

Gemstone of the Week

Demantoid Garnet

It's no secret that garnet is the birthstone of people born in January but I wondered if I could find some unusual members of the garnet family because not everyone born in January likes the sumptious deep red colour of garnets.

Garnet is possibly a name derived from the middle English term 'gernet' which means dark red. They are perceived to be a stone stone of purity and truth. It is also supposed to be a symbol of love and compassion. If you place a piec...

Have craft fairs had their day?

Posted by Dawn McLean on Monday, November 7, 2011, In : craft fairs

I used to sell a lot of my jewellery from the Rosewill's Charms range at craft fairs but it seems that the craft fair is somewhat struggling in the North East at the moment.

Customer's give the impression that they want to have extremely cheap items or actually non handmade items at all which is a huge shame giving the amount of talented people out there. So are craft fairs really delivering what customers want?

There seem to be more craft fairs than you can shake a stick in the run up to Chri...
