The world hates change....

Posted by Dawn McLean on Tuesday, April 16, 2013, In : Rosewill Cottage

... yet it is the only thing that has brought progress - Charles Kettering

So our bead fair season is well and truly underway which is lovely. I'm still quite new to bead fairs so I'm still learning the ropes really. The Scottish Bead Fair in Perth was a real eye opener and the customers as well as my fellow bead shop friends were amazingly supportive, constructive with their criticism and I have been invited back in August. Fab! I was at Doncaster Bead Fair on Sunday and it also was a great ...

Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over....

... It turned into a butterfly!

I'm not going to apologise for the lack of blogging over the past few months as I'm sure you will appreciate that it has been a tricky start to the year for Rosewill Cottage but things are on the up!

Just to fill you in on the background I have now left Northumbria University so that I can concentrate on the shop full-time for a while. So in the space of three weeks I have had time to introduce a load of exciting new things!

We have the pleasure of being able ...

Birthday parties are booking in a storm!

Posted by Dawn McLean on Sunday, January 20, 2013, In : Rosewill Cottage

Our birthday parties aren't just for children

It's been great that we have received so many enquiries and bookings for our birthday parties not only for girls from as far a field as Ponteland and Middlesbrough but we have a lot more adult bookings which is great! Don't get me wrong I love teaching children but those parties are great in a different way.

Mel and her friends came into Rosewill Cottage at 7pm one Saturday in January and enjoyed great food and wine (courteousy of their fab hos...

Touched by an Angel

An appeal for left over beads

I bet that if you're a beader, jewellery maker or scrap booker then you will have a stash of what my Mum would call odds and sods that you will never use but have kept just in case. Well I have a perfect home for them! We are renowned in the North East for being caring and kind but myself and Sue have been touched by a little girl's desire to help a friend this week.

Abigail is ten, we've never met her as she lives down south in fact we've only really spoken to her...

I could never be a postlady!

Announcing our arrival to North Shields!

It's been a busy half term for me this Autumn. I've spent three days posting leaflets through the doors of the houses in North Shields within a decent parameter of the shop. Unfortunately I haven't been able to cover the whole of North Shields but there have been over 4,000 leaflets delivered.

Firstly I have to say a massive thank you to my daughter Rosie, my son William, Karen from the shop and her daughter Cait who have all helped me leafletting too f...

We want your Mail Art for our exhibition!

Posted by Dawn McLean on Thursday, August 23, 2012, In : Rosewill Cottage

We want to have no room, no room on our party room wall!

Being a crafty bunch or people we have decided to revive the 1960s cultural movement that is Mail Art in a bid to have something innovative and unique for our party room wall. It is a decent size space so there will be room for everyone in our creative participatory exhibition.

Rules:
Unfortunately we require a few simple house rules.

The theme is "The Mad Hatter's Tea Party"
Your design must be on an envelope or a postcard and mailed to t...

Moving to pastures new

Building a Creative Hothouse

It was with deep sadness that I handed in my notice to the landlords of the Park View shop but there is no time to wallow in the doldrums. We are moving to our new shop based on 148 Tynemouth Road, North Shields near the fish quay and the law courts, in three weeks time. We plan to be open there on Monday 3 September after closing Park View down on Saturday 1 September 2012.

My Knight in shining armour

Posted by Dawn McLean on Tuesday, May 29, 2012, In : Rosewill Cottage

I didn't need persuading to use Paul's PR agency

I’ve been a bit naughty and have written this blog without the other company’s prior knowledge but I wanted to shout out about how fantastic this company has been since I started my adventure that is Rosewill Cottage, in my own words.

Paul with his persuasive team!

When I was approaching open day for Rosewill Cottage, I started to look at PR agencies and quickly got discouraged by their all singing all dancing web pages which highlight...

Preview - Summer Gemstone Stock

Posted by Dawn McLean on Wednesday, May 16, 2012, In : Rosewill Cottage

New Gemstones are coming!......

I got word yesterday that our gemstone order had been shipped from the warehouse so now we're patiently awaiting for them to wing their way over the Alantic Ocean and sit in customs a little while. We're expecting to have the box of delights in the shop on Monday, 21 May 2012.

So in the meantime we have set up a preview folder in our online shop so you can see what we are excited about.

This year along with a few staples we have gone for the summery peachy pink...

The high street – From a different perspective

I had my eyes opened last night whilst watching ‘Titanic 100 Mystery Solved’ so I thought I should share my thoughts.

Titanic Charm available for £20 from Charmed.

My brother has been infatuated with this luxury white star liner since he was little and has always updated me on the latest theories but what this latest Titanic programme stated in its summary made me think about things a little diffe...

One thing is for certain... everything changes

Goodbyes

Some of you may know that our lovely Katie is off to trek around the far east, which will be amazing!  Katie is a firm favourite with our youngsters and elders so she will definitely be missed! It's such a fantastic opportunity and we wish her a safe adventure and luckily we will see her back in August or September.

I can't wait to welcome Katie back but she will be embarking on a whole new adventure on the route to becoming a teacher in September so it may be only on a limited basis....

New Year - Tough Decisions

Posted by Dawn McLean on Monday, January 2, 2012, In : Rosewill Cottage

The Whitley Bay Bead Fair

Unfortunately I've had to postpone the Whitley Bay Bead Fair due to lack of time to dedicate to the event. I'm not the sort of person who can happily take money from people and think facebook will do the trick as far as marketing it.

So I've spoken with the bead suppliers who were going to take part and asked if they would like to do some guest slots at the shop instead which will be entitled "Spotlight on....". I'm amazed at the response. It's been fabulous. Hopefu...

Another Bloomin' Christmas

Posted by Dawn McLean on Thursday, December 29, 2011, In : Rosewill Cottage

Another Fantastic Year!

We just wanted to say a huge big thank you to everyone who has supported us over 2011. Whilst it isn't quite over yet we are very much looking forward to the New Year with lots of changes a foot.

Three stops

1.Looking back at where we have been and worrying about what other people are doing.

2.Doubting the success of our little shop as our customers really do seem to love it.

3.Hoarding all the work and delegate! Thus a new post for a Virtual Assistant (See the about...
